浙二代在抗疫Report Provided by Rhode Island Chinese American Anti-COVID 19 group 罗德岛美国华人抗疫群
Faced with the spread of the novel COVID-19virus in the United States, the state of Rhode Island announced school closuresuntil further notice. Learning of the shortage of medical supplies for themedical personnel on the front lines, Wheeler high schooler Eric Tang (浙二代)converted hours of time for days on endfocused on doing whatever he could. After obtaining help and rallying a groupof close friends and other enthusiastic individuals, the Rhode Island ChineseAmerican Anti-COVID 19 Group was formed.
But the group faced a momentous obstacle: howto secure funding and find certified vendors for the Personal ProtectiveEquipment (PPEs).
To solve this issue, Eric reached out to theZhejiang University Education Foundation USA (ZUEFUSA) asking for support.Working alongside ZUEFUSA, the smaller RI Anti-COVID 19 Group began gainingmomentum. Through a variety of sources, Eric managed to collect informationabout hospitals in urgent need of medical supplies as well as communicate withthe donation centers. Furthermore, he helped draft and formulate the waiver ofliability and indemnification for donated assets, designed the donationappreciation certificate for the donors, and reached out to those in charge ofdonations to facilitate their processing.
Naturally, all this setup would have been fornaught if donation day didn’t go smoothly. We were quite nervous the day thefirst batch of 10,000 masks arrived. All the masks needed to be meticulouslycounted, labelled, and correctly distributed in the proper timeframes. Therewas a schedule and a set route to various facilities, including Brown Medicine,Rhode Island Hospital, Hasbro Children’s Hospital, and Kent Hospital. Thanks toEric’s meticulous planning and foresight, everything went without a hitch.
The success of the first shipment wasinvigorating, to say the least, and gave the group much more steam to continuethe fight. More donations rolled in, the second batch of 5,000 masks and thethird batch of 10,000 masks and some hand sanitizers.
In the course of about a month, the group hasgathered the donations for 25,000 medical surgical masks, some hand sanitizersand DuPont TM Tyvek®600 Coveralls to Rhode Island hospitals and healthfacilities during the fight against COVID-19.
